While acknowledging the report, White House national-security adviser, Jake Sullivan, refrained from commenting directly but acknowledged that the analysis of the war in Ukraine has evolved. Despite this gloomy assessment, the U.S. remains cautiously optimistic and believes that the situation can still be changed.
Russian forces continue to intensify their attacks on Ukrainian positions, resorting to missile strikes, air raids, and rocket attacks on both military targets and populated areas. Ukrainian forces have managed to dig in at the boundaries they have reached so far, fiercely defending their positions while also undertaking countermeasures against the aggressors.
Furthermore, Ukrainian air defense forces have launched strikes on enemy concentrations, displaying their determination to push back the Russian forces and regain control over their occupied territories. As a sign of progress, Ukraine claims to have liberated the village of Urozhayne on August 16, demonstrating the Ukrainian military’s resilience and determination.

It is estimated that approximately 500,000 Ukrainian and Russian troops have been killed or wounded since the war began. Ukrainian deaths are believed to be around 70,000, while the Russian death toll is estimated to be as high as 120,000.
