Nissan Makes Bold Move Towards Electric Future in Europe
Nissan recently made a ground-breaking announcement that all new car models launched in Europe will be fully electric. In a bid to contribute to a cleaner environment, the company aims to achieve solely electric vehicle sales in Europe by 2030.
This decision comes at a crucial time, just after the U.K. delayed its ban on the sale of new gasoline and diesel cars to 2035. Nissan’s focus on electrification in Europe is backed by impressive statistics. More than one-third of the over 1 million electric vehicles Nissan has sold worldwide were in Europe. Looking ahead, the company plans to launch 27 electric and hybrid vehicles globally, including 19 all-electric models, by 2030.
In addition to their ambitious plans, Nissan aims to introduce cobalt-free technology to reduce the cost of electric vehicle batteries by a staggering 65% by fiscal 2028. This not only makes electric vehicles more affordable but also addresses concerns about the environmental impact of battery production.
Another exciting development is Nissan’s aim to launch a vehicle with its own all-solid-state batteries by 2028. These advanced batteries would significantly reduce charging times, making electric vehicles even more convenient and appealing to consumers.

However, Ford UK Chair Lisa Brankin criticized the U.K.’s decision to delay the 2030 sales target. Brankin believes that this delay creates uncertainty and shifts focus away from the necessary transition to electric vehicles.
Despite this setback, Nissan confirmed that one of its upcoming electric vehicles will be produced at its plant in Sunderland, U.K. Uchida expressed the company’s desire to showcase its electrification strategy in the U.K., highlighting Sunderland’s history and cost competitiveness.
Furthermore, Nissan has its sights set on China, a key market for electric vehicles. The company plans to accelerate its car launches in China and target specific consumer segments to maximize its success in this rapidly growing market.
