Title: United States Denounces Chinese Coast Guard’s Interference in Philippine Resupply Mission

Amid rising tensions in the South China Sea, the United States has strongly condemned the actions of the Chinese Coast Guard and maritime militia. In particular, the recent obstruction of a Philippine resupply mission to Second Thomas Shoal has sparked outrage and concern among international observers.

According to reports, the Chinese authorities utilized water cannons and engaged in unsafe blocking maneuvers, preventing the Philippine vessels from accessing the Shoal. This interference not only violated the Philippines’ lawful exercise of high seas freedom of navigation but also endangered the safety of their vessels and crew.

In addition to these dangerous actions, the United States has expressed its concern over the consistent threats posed by the People’s Republic of China (PRC) in the South China Sea. These actions, which go against international law, not only jeopardize regional peace and stability but also undermine the rights of neighboring countries.

An international tribunal ruling in July 2016 clearly stated that the PRC has no lawful claim to the maritime area around Second Thomas Shoal. Despite this ruling, the PRC has continued to challenge the status quo, disregarding international norms and regulations.

In response to these developments, the United States is calling on the PRC to respect the arbitral ruling and uphold freedom of navigation rights. Furthermore, the mutual defense commitments between the US and the Philippines would be invoked in the event of an armed attack on Philippine public vessels, aircraft, and armed forces in the South China Sea.

As tensions escalate in the region, it is crucial for all parties involved to address disputes through peaceful means and adhere to international law. The United States reaffirms its commitment to supporting its allies and ensuring that freedom of navigation is preserved in the South China Sea.
